What types of S3 storage are available?

  • low latency, high throughput
  • billed for storage per GB and transferring data out of AWS
  • objects not accessed in 30 days → S3 Standard-IA
  • objects not accessed in 90 days → Archived in S3 Glacier
  • objects not accessed in 180 days → Archived in S3 Glacier Deep Archive
  • If the objects stored in a different tier are accessed later, S3 Intelligent-Tiering moves the objects back to the S3 Standard tier.
  • Minimum storage of 30 days (paid up front) required
  • Charged a per GB retrieval fee
  • Data retrieval request must be filled out before data can be accessed, minimum storage of 45 KB; data can be retrieved within minutes with Expedited Retrieval, but at a premium cost; Standard Retrieval is 3–5 hours, and Bulk Retrieval (cheapest) is 5–12 hours
  • Minimum storage of 30 days (paid up front) required
  • Minimum storage of 180 days (paid up front) required
  • Standard Retrieval takes 12 hours; Bulk Retrieval takes up to 48 hours for access
